I entered the open-gated property in Purok Glabaca, where I saw a fishpond with a pathway in the middle going to the seashore. I thought it was a very dangerous place, especially at night if you're walking alone in this creepy place. I walked forward until I reached a small bridge and approached an old man holding a bolo knife. He was friendly while talking and guided me to where the oldest Japanese bunker was located.
I walked confidently in an area with many Muslim houses. If you're a coward, then you're not allowed to pass through this place to go to the bunker. I reached the second man-made bridge on the way to the tricycle terminal. After a few minutes, I personally discovered the abandoned Japanese bunker built during World War II at Sitio Pogi Lawis in Barangay Daliao, Toril.
The lower foundation of the concrete bunker was buried beneath the sand with dry stool (tubol) from local residents. It was incredibly strong, with sheer defensive durability for enemies. Beside the bunker, where a pieces of stone were piled by local fishermen. There's no entrance fee when you visit this incredible place. It was an abandoned bunker that the Barangay Council of Daliao and the City Tourism Office of Davao City have not yet discovered as a tourism destination for the public. Be respectful when asking a local resident in this place about the bunker. They are all Muslims living in the area. If you're rude, then most likely you will be killed right away and cannot escape alive.
This bunker served as protection for vital equipment, communication hubs, and ammunition caches from intense naval and aerial bombardment. It allowed Japanese defenders to hold off the Allies for weeks, forcing them into deadly crossfires. Nowadays, it is often preserved as a historical landmark or peace memorial. Don't waste your time, and you'll be the next to visit this amazing place.
