Why did these two Davaoeños choose to work in European countries?

If you were born into a poor family in Davao Region and are currently working at a minimum wage of 540 per day at a college level, maybe you will think and say it was very hard to buy all the household needs. If you are aware of that salary I mentioned, then Davao is the best place to stay until you grow old. If you are a licensed professional who graduated from board courses, your salary ranges from 30K working in government agencies. Meanwhile, other Davaoeños choose to work in private schools or companies for many years.

‎Dabawenyo Influencer conducted a personal interview with a college-level and Licensed Professional. And here's the feedback we gathered based on the interview.

For a college-level private employee:

‎Are you aware of a minimum wage of P540 per day?

"As a minimum wage earner for a single person, then yes, it is enough to survive and live, even though I can only avail myself of government benefits from SSS, HDMF, and PhilHealth upon retirement. But now, I'm married with 2 kids, so I still need to enroll in TESDA NC II courses that are in demand abroad for countries that have established residency pathways for a better future for my family, especially in Spain".

For a Private Licensed College Instructor:

‎Are you aware of your job now, where you're currently working?

"Yes, as of now, I have to work here for years to gain experience. But I have a detailed plan to apply for a student or working visa for countries with residency pathways that would allow me to avail of their government benefits, especially in Ireland. Dito sa Pilipinas, even here in Davao City, pag nagkasakit ka ay puwedeng maging free at walang babayaran sa hospitalization pag updated ang payment contribution at kung ito ay covered ng Philhealth. Ang pambili ng gamot ay magiging free kung pipila at magmamakaawa ka bilang pulubi sa mga government concerned offices. Ayoko magmakaawa dahil hindi naman ako PWD. I want to work abroad, especially in a European country I mentioned, since they have excellent retirement benefits for Filipino permanent residents. Hindi pa rin sapat ang sahod sa pagtaas ng presyo ng mga bilihin. The Philippines is very popular for corruption".

‎From two Davaoeños we interviewed, they don't lose hope, they still dare to reach their dreams to have a better future for their families. This means that not all individuals working here in the Davao Region find better opportunities. Whatever reasons they have will serve as their own decision, even though the cost of living there in Europe was very high. They just aim high to reach the stars they want.
